Quick Attach Dump Box

This winters project is a dump box much like the one shown below, and putting a new 400 engine in my 1979 F350. I may start a thread for the engine build as I might want some help with that. You fellows can feel free to offer any ideas on this dump box too. I will admit that this is an experiment to some degree. For the most part however the design work is already done and the materials were ordered yesterday.

My design is a bit different than the one shown. It is more like a dump box found on a truck than a debris hopper. I plan to use it mainly for soil. I have some 400 yards of clay soil that needs to be moved about 150 yards. I am curious to see how this will handle concrete as well.

Making the swivel caster is the start of this project. I had planed to machine the 3/4" thick swivel plates first but I soon discovered the steel I bought was too hard. I did not specify what type to my supplier, I simply didn't consider the possibility that he would sell me something like this without telling me.

Here is the drawing of the swivel plate assembly. The plan view is on top, the section view on the bottom. I still need to determine how many 1/2" diameter balls I am going to need.

This is a view of the fork. It will be made from 3/8" HR plate.

Hahaha I don't think it will work. The assembly I am making will weigh almost as much as as a brush hog.

Apparently you forgot that the machine has to still pick it up.

Along with a usefull load eh ?

One could add functionality, cost, safety, looks and ease of manufacture to the list as well. I'm not smart enough to be really good at it so I have to overbuild sometimes. Functionality, safety and ease of manufacture are most important for this one. After three weeks of designing this contraption let's hope I haven't forgotten anything.

In this case I'm not caring much about weight. There is no need to pick up this box when it is loaded. Most of the loaded weight will be carried by this wheel, (I hope) the rest will be supported by the loader. I am guessing I will be able to lift the unloaded contraption but we will see.
