Default Kitchen Knife Set

Here's some early pictures of a set of kitchen knives I'm working on. They're a donation to the pink ribbon horse show ( www.pinkribbonhorseshow.com ), which has a silent auction. This is the 4th time they've done the show, last year we took some kids to it for the first time and I was really impressed with the whole thing. They have a wide variety of events going on with something for everyone. There is a "survivors class" for those who've had cancer, and many different opportunities for dedications in memory of loved ones lost. All proceeds go to cancer treatment and research.
The whole event is really just about getting together and sharing a good time for a good cause, there isn't any of the cut throat competitive attitude you find at many horse shows anymore.

I haven't completely decided what to make yet, I'm making my mind up as I go. I may give all 3 knives, but the current plan is a set of 2 with the larger knife and one of the small ones. They will go in a maple block and I plan to do some carving on it if I have time. Handles will be black linen micarta with pink liners underneath, and stainless steel mosaic pins.

At this point I have 3 blades rough ground and have done filework around the handles. After giving the filework a little touch up when my hands and eyes aren't as tired, I'll be ready to heat treat and then move on to the handles.

They already have a good start at being beautiful knives.

Nope. Genuine Craftsman 1 1/2 lb cross pein hammer and a 24" piece of 100#/yd ex CN rail on a 16" spruce round. Just looks like the efforts of a drunk Cromagnon with a rock... I was sober, honest...

Thanks Everybody, will post more as I work on them

Milo,
I'm using 440C. Have to look at timing, I was thinking about sending them out for heat treat but I think at this point I will do it myself. I've been pretty happy with the results.

Cam
Thanks! but to be fair, these are stock removal. I've been know to do some "can't believe you were sober" forging myself
