Default Hydraulic Power Pack

I decided awhile back I wanted a Hydraulic power pack to run some equipment I plan on building. Press Brake, Picket and Cage maker, Roll bender Etc. Basically whatever needs hydropower. I had my eye on an old Coats tire machine and a shop compressor that I finally picked up for $400.00 Once the build commenced I cannibilized the Coats down to the components I wanted to keep and assembled my power pack Now I've got a 3 horse system with 3 separate hydraulic circuits. Two spools in the valve body are set up to run cylinders and one which ran the mount/dismount arm powered a hydraulic gear motor. I found a picture of the original machine and took some of the finished unit. Because, I wasn't recording things for posterity during the build. So here's the "Skonk Werx Power Pack"

Looks like a useful tool. Got a question... does it matter whether an hydraulic pump is mounted horizontally or vertically?

Yea, it can depending the pump design and bearing setup. Same goes for the electric motor. I kept it the way Coats designed it. They build a good product IMHO.

Default Power Wagon

I built something like yours for a shop I used to work for. The guys called it the "POWER WAGON".

Unless the manufacturer say different, the pump doesn't care if it is mounted vertical. A lot of power packs are made with the whole pump submerged in oil; this is quiter, simplifies plumbing, no priming issues, etc... mark

I like it. What kind of pressure are we talking about?

Not sure I haven't thrown a gauge on it and deadheaded it to see when the relief opens yet.

Digr's question on system pressure got me curious too. So, I checked it today. 1500 lbs. on the nose would be the answer. I also took a picture of the gear and drive motor from the mount/dismount table that I saved to give a better idea what I have in mind for building a Picket/Cage twister and powering a roll bender. The end of the hollow gear shaft is set up for 2" square tube. This will allow me to interchange slide in dies for twisting stock or a shaft to drive the roll bender. I figured my ratio at 9.75 to 1 reduction based on my tooth count. If it doesn't have enough grunt I'll just run it through another reduction box. I also saved all the mount flanges for the gear and shaft complete w/brass bushings. So mounting should be fairly straight forward during fabrication
