Default New toy....

I've been scoping out the used generator supply lately. There is a bunch of low mileage generators on the market, probably left-overs from the recent hurricane activity. I found one I liked the looks of and had to miss a little sleep to pick it up yesterday. It's a Honda EG5000, 4500watts continuous and 5000watt surge. It has the same engine as the one I have on the TrailerSnatch for the hydraulic pump, an 11hp Honda GX340. It's roughly half the size of a 4kw Coleman and wasn't running when I bought it. It looked nearly new and still had the barcode sticker on it. The previous owner said, and I agree, that it didn't have more than four or five hours of runtime on it. He had left gas in it the last time and the carb was all gummed up. (He had been looking into a fowled sparkplug idea….) I spent 30minutes taking the carb apart and running a can-and-a-half of carb cleaner through it. I put it back together, it fired up on the first pull and purred like a kitten, (OK 11hp might qualify as, "purred like a cougar or lion....."). The suggested MSRP is nearly $1900, Honda EG5000. I gave $400.

I didn't even have to clean it up for the picture.
It's rather compact and a beast for power in it's relatively small size....

I'd say you did pretty good. If you want a owners manual for it they have PDF's here http://www.poweredgenerators.com/honda/EG5000.html

Already got it and printed as well.

Now, for today's booty.....
An Onan 4kw RV Genset, propane fueled and can be converted to gas if needed. Complete with remote panel, muffler & pipe and spare oil & air filters. The meter shows 130 hours of runtime. This will probably wind up as backup power at my sister's house.

Dramatic pause......

All for the scant price of $225

Dang, and you've already painted the Onan to match the Trailersnatch.
