Exhaust vent location

I have a 40x63 shop that I setup a 16’x12’x8’ room to use for sandblasting and painting, now I need to put an exhaust fan in there. I used to paint cars and I know the downdraft system is the best for dust management. Ideally you’d want the air to come in from the center top, go around the car and underneath it pulling the fumes with it.

I can setup the incoming air to come in anywhere on the ceiling pretty easily, but I can’t cut the concrete so no go on the floor vent. I would “think” the next best option would be to have it vent out on the side wall of the booth, nearest the floor, so in the middle of the 16’ wall, at the floor.

Any input?

You can build a steel box, say 6" deep and 8ft wide and as long as a car. Put ramps on the end, and down the center have a 24" wide grate made of catwalk material etc. Run your car up on it. Hook your wall fan to it with a flex tube and when you are done painting, drag it out and stack it somewhere.

That sort of thing was what first occurred to me when I read the question but it may depend on the extra height needed. I was thinking more like an extra "Floor" raised enough.

I'd think if you did it through the side wall without the subfloor idea, you'd need to find a way to offset the fresh air to the opposite side rather than the top center.

Really though, I like the idea of the subfloor more. One reason I've never enjoyed doing that sort of work was because of the necessity to bend over and/or crawl around.

Wherever I do the exhaust fan, I’ll do the intake as close to the exact opposite of the intake as I can. The ceiling is completely open right now and some of the walls are too.
