Looks like hot rolled, as I think I can see the mill scale. For general use for a drill press it’ll be fine. Just be careful when you clamp stuff, make sure it’s not just ‘pinching’ it at one end, especially if you’re drilling at the other. The pinch point can act like a hinge and let the ‘free’ end swing up.

Heck that can happen with a good vise but out of parallel work....don’t ask how I know.

Have has that happen a many of times using total Chinese junk vises so I wanted a bit of an upgrade Ill see how this one works out and tinker with it as I go to see if I can get it improved a little bit...
