Default Ok, I got bit by the Smith Mixer bug....

Well, it took awhile, but the first of the three are now in my possession. I was lucky enough to find an older but in good shape and with current calibration Model 299-066-1B Smith mixer for CO2 and Argon. It's not blue, but I'm sure I'll make do with it as is. Actually, it's what we call down here, ChurchPoint Blue.

I have a newer 2 gas mixer and a tri-gas mixer coming in once the calibrations are verified and noted as with this one. Hopefully sometime next week.

It was surprising to walk into the little, less than stocked LWS about 2 miles from the apt, but they had all the connectors etc ferrule and hose sleeve clamps to make up the hoses I'll need. I'm happy about that. I figured I'd be chasing fittings two or three places. Bad thing is, I'll get out to the farm, open my junk box of welding connectors/fittings and probably find 3 sets of each in old stock already owned free.

I did go ahead and pick up a reg just for CO2. Price was not that bad considering it was a Harris reg.

Hopefully I'll have something rigged by evening Saturday to try it out with the 350P.

This is an older used model, but lucked out with it at $185 to the door with a fresh calibration to boot.

I can officially say that the two migs now sing a different tune with a slightly different mix over the 75/25 or possibly 80/20 I was getting from the LWS. Who knows what these guys put in the mix.

Very nice results.

Do I dare ask the mix ratio that makes them sing the best? I seen sometime ago that you made a brief comment about a Zena welder you had used, would you share your opinion of them? The last thing I need is another welder but I have always wondered if they lived up to the hype.

Have you tried 90/10 (mfg. specified) with pulse yet?

Not yet, but the weekend is coming up for more playing.

I've been saving and scrounging some 3/8, 1/2 and 3/4" f/b scraps of a few feet each to piddle with and jot down the results for my future referencing of each mixture and trick of the machine.

I have to mention that using the mixer with the smaller MM185 made a world of difference in it. I was really surprised at how much better it performed with the mixer doing a better job of control over mixes.

Being impressed with the 185 before and now seeing what it can really do, I'll not be selling it anytime soon for sure.

The 350P is just a beast in kitty fur, docile in controllability, but a firebreathing beast at heart.
