Default Small Belt Knife

I made another minimalist kind of belt knife to give away as a graduation present a couple weeks ago. It went to the older brother of one of the girls that shows horses with us. He's a nice quiet kid that likes to hunt and fish, and has always jumped in to help setting barns up for the fair. Hopefully he gets some use out of this.
Forged from a leaf spring, the blade is 3 inches long and I did something I rarely do and put a convex edge on it. If you were to take a cross section of the blade it would be shaped sort of like an appleseed instead of a V. There is no dedicated bevel at the cutting edge, it kind of rolls into it. I sharpened it by stropping it on sandpaper over a piece of leather up to 600 grit, then giving it a couple licks on a ceramic stone. Its a little scary how good it cuts

Fine looking knife, I'm sure he will get some good use out of it. That was a nice gift. Good work, and good on you for doing that for him...

I'm glad I could do something for him. One of the cool things about training horses is the kids we get to see grow up. Many of them start with us in grade school and we have watched more than a few of them now go off to college or start careers.
Some stay in town and we get to watch their college careers and continue showing horses, but many go on to do other things or live life in other places. Even though with this new social media craze its easy to keep track of them, I still like to give them something memorable when they graduate, a card and a little bit of money just doesn't seem right.
All the other graduates we had this year were girls that rode with us and they each get one of these hooks.

Great looking knife! I hope to one day start making knives myself.
Great looking hook too! I may have to borrow that idea myself.

You have been busy... Great to see all the variety of work you have been tackling. I haven't been doing much forge work as the Farrier biz is just crazy.

I never thought I'd be this busy at my age. LOL..

I made a throwing tomahawk and mandrel which I filmed but my computer fried out so waiting for the replacement for video time.

Being busy with paying work would be a good thing

Are horses up your way growing hoof like crazy all of the sudden? We came out of winter and things went wild. The farrier for the farm has been out twice a week all month and I've been doing a lot of extra stuff to get by in between his visits.

Try them both, and show us how it turns out
