'from sapling size to 5-6inches in diameter"--thats gonna require horsepower and machine weight no matter how you power it or move it once cut..best approach if you have the money is to use a Fecon mulcher attachment to cut and mulch it in one pass..yeah,its gonna cost $$$$ money..I tried to do it on the cheap too but soon realized it a compromise could be made..If you do want to economize on the job then get a tracked skid steer(compact trackloader) with a top-clamp grapple rake and go at it..dig out,lift and stacks everything..culls out larger rocks and stumps too. We used a Cat 277 and got great results with it.

You don't want to spend the rent money ?

Recall you'll only doo it once, and then every year, use a simple tow behind
brush mower to keep it in check.

FWIW ask over at HeavyEquipmentForums.com the drum style seems to be taken over
by the disc style.

From the farmshow link: "The one-of-a-kind rig consists of a 14-in. dia., carbide-tipped circular blade that's belt-driven by an 8 hp Briggs & Stratton gas engine"

1. engine way too small
2. carbide tipped blades don't like to play in the dirt
3. belt drive will slip when wet (no, we wouldn't get the belt wet now would we ?)
4. Pinching a 7" tree will bend the blade, and ruin the contraption.

Which would be as several of us have already suggested...and attachment for a skid loader (one with hi-flow)

BTW I got a good look at one of those one day, do you know what the hourly rate
is for those ?

and what do you think the greenies would do, if you hauled one in ?

I guy running one of these machine said he chewed up a 350 engine block didn't know it was in the weeds/brush. I was just putting out a idea like everyone else maybe use one or a little of all of them.
