It looks to me to be the classic design of a boat trailer winch.

If it is the same company that made my Budget hoists it is well made. My one ton hoist lifted four ton but I had to take a run at it, it wouldn't pick it if I stopped and tried to lift it again.

I would say this Winch was made very well. So I think we are talking about the same company Digr. Just wish I knew what they used it for.

I use one similar to yours on my flatbed trailer to Mine is a two speed. A cordless drill works much better than hand cranking.

could be used for marine application "boat trailer I doubt" more small craft lift maybe but would think more used in construction to hoist materials up rooftop skid or roof mount just missing the rest of the equipment pieces it might once have been attached too...

it's hard to tell scale from the pics, but it looks one hell of a piece of engineering for 350lbs.
I wonder is it a hoist as opposed to a winch? ie much higher safety factor. |

The same winch could be made to lift 1 ton, with a simple gearing change.
By changing the drum size, and gearing yes, it could possibly lift 1 ton. But maybe, just maybe, the usage needed speed, and a larger drum for more line, hence the reduction in capacity. Maybe you want to pick up a 350 engine block without making a sound ? |
