The spare tire is under because any where else it's in the way. Far as the rack it's over 12" off the ground my hitch on my SUV will be a good 4" under the road way before rack touches.

As a plate has to be mounted on the horizontal and sitting under a light, the outside end of the plate is always exposed and usually gets beat the hell up, often breaking the tail light it's sitting under.

It seems that the width of the fenders and how the upright framing of the trailer does not allow the plate to be protected from/on it's outside edge

I have plans to increase it's life expectancy somewhat in the near future.

I was thinking of your body parts. Loading or unloading, bit of a hurry, bend down, turn, sun gets in your eyes and **&*%^^$#@!!!!! metalbndr was right. Pm me when it happens, you don't have to tell everyone, LOL.
