Default Question for Ron- Shade Tree

Ron, or anyone else qualified to answer this,

I just ordered 2- 5 gallon pails of oil to change our lathes gear boxes at work.

I noticed there was quite a bit of dust on top of the pails, so I figured it is not a fast moving item for my warehouse.

The production date (trace code) looks to be 11-03-2021. I am assuming this is the production date, but I have not verified this with the salesman yet.

My question is, should I worry about the age of this oil. Does it have a shelf life?

If I was running it in my old worn out machines at home, I would not worry. But running it in our $50,000 new replacement cost machines at work, that we depend on daily, it has me slightly concerned.

I remember a past thread where you mentioned oil has a shelf life. I can’t remember if it was oil in general, or oil for automotive engines with special additives.
