I doubt you'll ever be able to get 1:50 or higher reduction with a planetary gear set, they're just not designed for that kind of reduction. At best you would need a custom planetary of some sort. For the reduction you're talking about a 1:30 worm drive gear box and a 3:1 chain reduction would give you an overall reduction of 1:90 which is pretty close to your target...

Both Ford and the GM transmissions have a 2.55 to 1 planetary for low gear.
700R4 has 3:1 4L60-E has 3.059 ratio

I was hoping there was an easier way just based on that video I linked earlier the guy mentioned "planetary gears can achieve extreme ratios but they're way out of spec for our applications" (paraphrasing). He never went into details but it seems I might as well try to copy the winch modification. If there was a better way they'd probably be using it in the winch. |
