Here is a plethora of EV info should you care.

BEVs for the foreseeable future will only be a solution for a small part of the market.
Battery Electric Vehicles Hybrid Electric Vehicles are the only practical solution for several decades. They will be all plug-ins in the future. 1. Not anywhere near enough electricity generation, we have to double the TWh of generation in NA and EU; even more in other parts of the world. (I am talking generation, not distribution aka the grid, the grid can be upgraded in a few years, easy problem to fix. 2. Not enough Lithium, demand out strip supply in 2027. Global known reserves are not near enough. There is no other viable technology on the horizon. 3. Copper will be a problem. 4. Rare earth elements are also in short supply. 5. Lithium, copper and rare earth mining and refining are very CO2 intensive, so EVs are not any more green than than an ICE. 6. Current Hydrogen is not green as it comes from NG reformation. 7. Green Hydrogen has the same problem as #1, not enough power. And the energy balance is less efficient than a BEV. 8. Solar, wind, unicorns and pixie dust all are this same thing wishful thinking. 9. Nuclear is the only clear path forward if you truly believe in CO2 hoax and global warming... BEVs are cute and not practical for anything but a short daily commute and local errands. And that works for some people. But just yesterday I ran into town and did errands, 75 miles. That is about the shortest trip I make. If I run to my plant 144 miles RT, more if I go out to lunch which is standard. I run to Cleveland that is 400 miles there another 400 back, so now a 5-6 hour drive become a 2 day event, plus the 100-200ish miles I will drive when I am there for the week. Generally I expense 900-1000 miles on a week long trip. BEVs will never work for me. Plug-in Hybrids is an option. BTW I believe eventually a Serial Hybrid will take over the majority of the market. A serial hybrid is where an engine runs a genset. That way you can make an extremely efficient engine that runs in a narrow power band, turns a generator/alternator that will power the EV and charge the battery, when the batt is charged the gen set will turn off and the car will run like a BEV until you need more power. This also allows for a much smaller battery, about a 1/3 size of a Tesla or Lightning. This allow more of the fleet to be electrified. The SHEV will be a plug in so you can go pure EV for short trips but not be left charging for longer trip or stranded in winter. BTW Cold weather at best cuts your range in half. BTW, CO2 is not a bad thing. Actually we are in a CO2 drought, and global warming is a fucking hoax. Research C3 vs. C4 photosynthesis.

There's a huge use case for electric cars for people who never do more than a few hundred miles a week. Commuter cars, second cars etc In that regard I think the US is better suited than a lot of Europe as single family homes with driveways where those cars can charge overnight are a much higher percentage of housing stock.
But f150s and Rivians are nothing but technology studies, bought by people who should probably be buying commuter cars and 100% usage is a hell of a long ways off. I think generation capacity is the easiest thing on your list to solve Ron, big lumps of projects, a hundred nuclear power stations would do a lot. But the transmission upgrades needed are probably not far off total grid replacement, if you could find the lithium |

I live in an area where we have a number of power plant nuke and conventional, hell I can see the Braidwood plant in the winter from my house. Also a lot of line men live in the area as we have too central location they work out of, I have spoken to a number of them at lease the NA grid upgrades would not be all that difficult, 3-5 years where needed, out here in the boonies nothing is needed. Most houses already have 200 or 400 amp services. Plenty to run the house and put in a good charger. I have 2 400 amp services on my property. The other thing where BEVs are going to suffer is end of life value, so today's Lithium ion batteries have about a 150k mile life. Roughly, so to replace the battery in a Tesla, Rivian (if it does self ignite first, that plant is an hour from me and 15 minutes from Chumly, they have had a lot of fires) or a Lightning. You are looking at ~$25,000 for a battery swap. That is a lot of money to put into a 150,000 mile car. And if you don't do the battery swap, you have nothing but a pile of hazmat with no resale value. The economics on BEVs do not work out. Now lets say you have an HEV, the battery is 1/3 the cost for replacement $8000 and you still have an engine to drive it around, even if your battery is low performing. There is still resale value there.

Ye have a much better grid so. Average domestic connection here would be 80 amp.
The problem in much of Europe is people don't have driveways as they have on street parking. EVs only work imo if you can charge them at home |
