And yes, this should be done every 60K if you are pulling a load.
These trannys will give good service if maintained but especially in diesels, they are treated as if they were a standard box, and there is waay to much torque pushed through them. You never hear of a 48RE failing on a gas engine and they are ignored on them too.

Mine only shuddered in OD.

The one I linked has a 3 disk torque converter. Sent them a message and asked about Warranty coverage traveling in Canada. Gery knows why.

probably not good to tow in OD on hilly country, or switch out as needed.

That transmission is so simple and based on ancient T/F design, Im a bit shocked how much mola they are getting for one, but I guess everything costs more now...

Good luck Chris, in whatever direction you end up going !

The O/D is a separate unit off the end of the transmission. It uses hydraulic pressure to hold the clutch pack together when in use. A plugged filter or some crap in the pressure regulator valve will give those symptoms, because of low pressure. The pressure reg is just a dump valve controlled electrically to dump into the sump when pressure gets too high.

Yours may not close properly and dump a little all the time. This is very accessible with the pan off.
