Default Need Help ID'ing This Gearbox / Transmission

What's it from?

Has coupling selector for forward / neutral / reverse

Looks like a really low gear winch of some sort. Boat yard maybe?

it looks like an overhead roll up garage door opener to me,i had one that was like that,for a big door of course.

I think Randy is right. It appears to have a link to disengage the gear train to remove the power opener from the mechanism, and has an obvious belt drive input.

shame it will be hard for me to salvage more of them, its a very nice gear set for projects.

Check with some of your local commercial door installers. they may have some of these in the scrap pile. Most times when a door gets replaced they wont reuse any of the hardware due to warranty issues.

I was thinking door opener or gate operator as well. I had to work on the (old) keydcard gates at the county fairgrounds a few times. They had a similar set up that ran a roller on a rail on the sliding gate to open and close it.
