Thumbs up nag nag nag - Please?

Well, I decided to try this again instead of the more personal approach of trying to annoy you newer members individually; there's just too many of you running around posting without "properly" filling out your membership profile so I will try this shotgun approach:

Please open your user profile and fill in the location line that you skipped over when you registered.
Look at the header at the top of any page; there is a blue bar with white letters & the first one on the left side is "User CP". Click on that & it will take you straight to your control panel. On the left is a column of choices; click on "edit profile" then scroll down near the bottom to "additional information" and type in the "location" line (where you live). That's all. No salesmen or preachers will call on you as a result. You don't even have to be that specific; if you live in Far Upper Western Rhode Island, then that's good enough.

What happens is this: when you fill in the location information then that city & state appears in the upper right hand corner of every post, reply, whatever that you make here. That is a far different thing than stating that you live in Joisey in a single post.

I think its kinda funny that nearly all of you fill in your birthday when you register, probably because it's pert near the first line but truthfully, nobody really gives a hoot when you were born except maybe your Momma. But it does make your posts more meaningful if we know where you're located. It just kinda adds some local flavor or something & I know for a fact that Texans enjoy seeing more Texans show up, guys in Chicago are always happy to see another one come on board, etc. Now this is not a requirement or a deal buster; if's just a kind of friendly & helpful thing to do & most of us appreciate it.

Then there is the aspect of your being able to get local help or advice in finding suppliers or solutions more readily if other members know you're located nearby. This happens pretty frequently here.

WELCOME!!!

This site is to help us all novice to experienced, professional and hobbyist alike. The core group of members is also very safety conscious. Please all new members ask questions. We all agree that there is no such thing as a dumb question only dumb mistakes. Everyone has something to contribute. From the guy who is thinking of getting started and has never welded to the retired welder of forty years experience.

The management (me) believes in freedom of speech in you posting your thoughts and feelings. All I ask is be professional in your postings. Moderation was perceived as a problem at one of our former homes. Please post your bios and interests and the general area/location you are from. I do not sell or use you email address for anything other than SFT correspondence, and that is minimal.

Please enjoy, share and post a lot.

Sincerely,
Ron Lemke

Default New to these sites and welding.

I am located in Bremerton WA. I am retired Navy (all spent in the submarine community). I grew up in a farming community in the California Central Valley then joined the Navy after a year of college and was a sailor for the next 20 years. Now (second career) I work as a Technical Support Engineer for a manufacturer of radio systems equipments (i.e.; 911 dispatch consols, radio repeaters, and other radio related equipment).

I took up welding sporadically at first because there was a need to fix things (the wife likes tools too!). Started out small with an old O/A from my departed father-in-law, got a Century 155GS mig (wife called from Oregon Costco and asked if I wanted it - didn't know anything about mig other than it was a wire feed welder), and have since upgraded to a MM251.

Found this forum and joined shortly after reading Franz's discussion on compressed air moisture removal (high humidity problems here). Here is the shop picture.

Default Thanks for the welcome Shade Tree Weldor

I spent some time on a tender so I got to know a lot of different people with a lot of different trade skills. Did also get to know an old timer boiler maker (Larry passed on a couple of years back - that asbesos thing got him) who was so good with a stick that his welds on the thin stuff looked as good a mig. He was part of the reason I got interested in welding.

It seems that you can post only one picture at a time. Yes? No?
