Default Got shorted on led lifespan

I put a Sylvania 8 watt Led bulb in light above kitchen sink last year on 10-2-21. (Yes, I am anal enough to write the dates on the bulbs )

This light stays on 24/7. Only time it has turned off was in power outages. It was only 1/4 bright tonight.

Box says it’s life span is 9 years, at 3 hours a day. That’s 9609 hours. This one only lasted 8400 hours.

Usually I get better life span outbid things when they do not get turned and off a lot. Have had regular bulbs go a couple of years.

But, I guess it should have only cost me $11.34 in electric costs for 50 weeks, vs $75.60 for a regular incandescent bulb. Maybe it was worth the extra $3 Cost per bulb.

I'd say you did well enough on the cost savings.

Out of principle, you should demand a replacement!

Led's are likely good. the issue is the power supply's in side, now a days electrolytic capacitors if lucky last 5 years, on a bad run 2 years.

they may have figured in a 3hr duty cycle for cooling.
EL caps do not like heat they dry-up and fail, you may have to change brands of lights.

Ah BUT that probably voids the warrantee . :-) All that ink on the bulb interferes with "proper" cooling. :-) Or some such "legalese" :-)

I just had a 4' LED (fluorescent replacement) start flickering on me. Luckily had replacement in stock. Maybe 2-3yrs old? I may just have to dig out the receipt--I think I paid $4 for it...

Default bulbs

I've bought 10 Feit 4 ft Fluorescent replacement led bulbs from Menards two years ago , four have failed , I keep two for spares and return the bad ones , they have a 5 year warranty , so far they have replaced them - no questions asked
LED's don't seem to last longer than fluorescent , The fluorescent tubes I had usually lasted 5 years or more .
