Default My old 62 Ford

Well I have 5 weeks left to get this thing moving so I will post it here and on my Truck forum to keep me motivated to get it done

I am putting a 1962 Ford F100 unibody truck ontop of a 1988 Ford Crown Victoria chassis with the full crown vic driveline .

The first set of pictures are the car and truck in question .

This is this weekends progress . The old chassis is out and the motor and tranny are loose ready to be pulled off and put on craigslist . The old chassis is going to a buddy of mine who is going to build it over the winter for a 64 F100 he is building .

More of this weekends progress .

The next tasks are yank the motor and tranny and stuff them in the shed deliver the old Chassis to my buddy . Then the Crown Vic can move into the driveway so I can pull the doors , trunk lid and front clip off of it then the interior comes out and then the Sawzall comes out until I am left with the chassis firewall and floorpan of the crown victoria . I hope to have this done by next weekend .

The picture progression makes that look fast and simple---IT AIN'T. That's a tremendous amount of labor & knuckle busting work.

Good Luck ! At least you opted for a new undercarriage which simplifies things a lot. You just have to make the stuff above the frame fit..

LOL yep my buddy who has been popping over to lend a hand when needed asked me how I was going to get the new chassis under the old truck I told him I am leaving enough hooked up on it that I could drive it under if I wanted .

The skeeriest part of the progress so far was lifting the body 3-4 feet in the air to get the old chassis out .

That's what they make A-frames for... LOL

I've got a '47 Ford chassis ,but unfortunately I got there too late to snag the I-beam front axle the idiot hauled it for scrap... probably got $10 for it but then he just gave me the chassis which weighs a bunch more & a huge homebuilt press with a 5" vise mounted to the side for $20 (I shouldn't complain except a 47 Ford axle ain't easy to find anymore)

I'm constantly amazed at what constitutes "junk" in the human mind..

An A frame woulda been handy I used the old cherry picker . We started at the back and got it up on a stack of 3 cinder blocks and a 4X4 I am 5'9" and could see the whole bottom of the truck by the time we got the back end high enough . Then we moved to the front and lifted it up onto a stack 4 high of cinderblocks plus the needed 4X4 then went back to the back and lifted it up enough to get the last cinderblocks under it before rolling out the chassis .

The cinder blocks are stacked 2 wide and crosshatched so they are quite sturdy once the chassis was out I dropped the whole thing back down to 2 blocks high for safekeeping while I go to town on the crownvic .

Mike believe it or not that was all done by Saturday night and I took SWMBO to dinner and a 7:30 movie Saturday night . She even let me see the new Fast and Furious although we had seen 2 of her movies in the last month .Sunday I put a Starter in her truck got the motor and tranny on the chassis ready to pull and then took her shopping . with any luck my neighbors F250 comes home from the shop today and I can deliver the chassis tonight and get the Crown Vic moved in place to begin the carnage on it .
