Default A Bastard Frenchman Sold Me A Busted Drill Press

He claimed it was in great condition and I didn't have time to look it over until days after I bought it.

Any idea how to fix this?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBsq5axRzzc

The lever to release tension on the pulley isn't connected anymore. I assume I have to pull the whole head off the shaft and then reconnect something, or replace a broken piece?

I wish this was the only thing wrong with the drill press. This is the priority to fix

Can you pull the shaft all the way out? Does the shaft with the black knob screw all the way out, and does it get tight when screwed all the way in? The chrome handle is not to release belt tension. It is to apply belt tension. Are the belts tight or loose now?

I like your thread title.
Maybe try it out before you buy next time.
All these DP's are the same, no matter what the label on them.
Look at #29 on the drawing to see how it functions.

It's no big deal to lift the head off and work on it if needed.

I can post a link to a hammer if needed

And as I recall the handle will slop around . yep, as stated it is to tension the belt and at the same time holding the handle tight, you lock down the screw.

guessing if someone replaced the belt that may prevent the handle from tensioning the belt as in the belt may be too long. (just a guess).

Referring to Gerry's Jet .pdf, it looks like #30 fell off of #29 and is probably sitting in the casting next to the post. Looks like it is held in place with a set screw and once installed, acts on #98 and center pulleys.

My life is just a 1000 page long "Oh God No" thread testing it out would make things too easy on myself.

Thanks for the diagram that will come in very handy. I'll try to pull the head off next time the sun's out (few days of rain incoming).

Ah interesting, maybe it's not broken after all. I'll check out some yt videos on how to change around the belts.

Appreciate that, hopefully it's an easy fix once the head comes off.

I didn't try to pull it fully out but it feels like it can. Strange tension system I would have thought it was just one lever to do it.

I'll test out the black knob screw and get back to you.

The belt is currently tight. I'm trying to swap it over to the slowest setting.

I think the hammer comment was right on topic.

Something along the lines of... If it moves, salute it; If it don't move, paint it or get a bigger hammer so it does move.
