![]() I was at my buddies shop and noticed a few feet of wire hanging from the ceiling. It was pretty darn thick and just cut so I asked if I could grab it. After a bit of work, I had 2 lengths around 30ft each. I did not check the guage sadly. Its only 12-3 and 10-3 ![]() Anyone want to trade for a single run of 8 or 6-2. |

Miller syncrowave 180SD.
The 10-3 is 35ft and as thick as the 8-2 you can buy at home depot... |

10/3 should be good for 30 amps. Check your manual to see what your welder draws.

Well,
With 10guage wire, I will get a 3.5v drop over 35ft. With 8guage wire, I will get a 2.25v drop over 35ft With 6guage I get a 1.4v drop over 35ft At 50amps load. Hurm.... Manual specs out at 8guage minimum and 50 amp breaker.... Last edited by the spyder; 08-06-2006 at 02:20 AM. |

Oh well Spyder, buy some nice new 6gauge and be done with it. For the other two lines. Put a male on each and 4ways on the other ends and make you some really nice extension cords and multiple outlets.

The 10 would make a welder cord for most machines that were not being screamed wide open. The code will call for a number 8 minimum as thats what the machine maker lists for it.
