Unless you are into prototyping stuff and need to iterate designs then for the typical use case most of us here would have then waiting a week for a widget to come in the mail is probably not the end of the world
There's no "fun" in send-cut-send to guys like most of us. The projects/needs are secondary to the learning and tool buying experience. I've got thousands of dollars in tools just to say I have the capability to do something. The reality is that I have only used many of them once.

Completely. But the skill is the CAD, not the plasma. and they take up so much room. No way could I give over the required space. I kinda like the idea of the ArcDroid for this reason.

Curious, what is ArcDroid?

And I'm with Dubby. I build things that pleases me, within reason. No way would a windmill be built the way I did and make any money.

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=arcdroid

it's a parallelogram arm based CNC, there's no table as such. but it also has the ability to measure so you don't need CAD. you can make a cardboard template, or take a drawing to it and measure the points of your cut and it will draw it itself.

it's a very clever piece of kit. limited cut area mind you, it's really made for making brackets and smaller pieces.

There is most certainly a learning curve to any CAD/CAM system. The ArcDroid looks sorta cool though too. Having the ability to trace and set at the machine is neat. I hadn't seen it before now either.

Room is my biggest issue 99% of the time. If I really want it, I'm generally capable of finding the money to buy stuff. I cannot afford to buy more space though. I am to a point that I am unable to do a lot of the things I once did because there is no room left anymore. I often think of things that would be enjoyable for the day, but the task of clearing out a spot, unpacking the required gear, rearranging, and getting things set up would exhaust me before actually getting anything done. My welder and plasma setup has sat unused for a couple years because the small outside area I used has become a fire hazard. I am drowning in my own clutter but won't sell stuff off because "I might need it someday..."

Default What's it worth? Langmuir Crossfire 2'x2' Plasma Table?

Hmm, I’m might have to look into that arcdroid more. That’s interesting.

Ok John, I giving you some of the blame for pulling the trigger on an arcdroid. I seen it mentioned on another forum also, and it seems it will be a good fit.

I was always planning on building a CNC table, but I realized I probably can do 80% of parts I think I want to make with this one, and with much of it being able to do without a computer, seemed like a good purchase.

Heck, after I figured it out, usually I’m very cheap when it comes to shop tools. Buying used ( or very well used) this will be one of my first new big purchases. Heaven knows how much I have squandered on other purchases that I never actually used over the years.

At least for this arcdroid, I have a paying job waiting for it to come in. At least I will get a $25 job out of it, I hope!

Let me know how that works out for ya! I may actually have a project that will need cutting down the line, and it'd all fit in small enough packages/boxes to ship back and forth. I could likely do it on my own plasma but your version looks more fun.

Oh, wow I want one of those arc droids. Cardboard aided design is right up my alley plus the size of the unit fits my current space. I Will Make Space for that.
