Another undercutter.

Just looking at the Noble undercutter. I have tried using an undercutter as a weeder and it does work.
When I worked on farms as a teenager, they had a thing called a rod weeder. It worked really well, used it on summer fallow fields. It had driving wheels and a chain that drove a 12ft rotating rod that undercut and lifted the weeds and left them on surface.

Now, to make a farmers eyes glaze over, just mention a rod weeder, or summer fallow. Now days, its live better by chemistry.

Farmers are up against it two ways. 1.) summerfallow means forgoing a years harvest and working the field to control growth is expensive and 2.) there is a move toward organic chemical free food, not to mention the cost of chemical and application. Custom spraying locally is at least 8$/acre, pellet application runs about 12$/ acre - not including product.

There are always concerns of accumulation of chemical residues over time and the long term effects they might have. The popular herbicide Grazon has a half life of up to 575 days. A little Googling will show that theoretically, there will never be zero residual from Grazon. Eg half will remain in 575 days, half of that half (also known as 1/4 of the original amount) will remain in 1150 days, and 1/8 of the original in 1725 days, and so on. One can quickly see that the effect on sensitive plants could drag on a very long time.

There are rumours of 18-24$/bushel canola and barley yields of 75-100 bushel/ acre, so the lost revenue from skipping a year is not insignificant.

I once tested manure that was piled 40 years ago, and the components of Grazon were present. Once exposed to sunlight and oxygen this level started to drop.
I know we need ag chemicals but some safety or self destruct ability is need. also.

She and Freya are living their best life. They had a pretty mild winter with just enough snow to have a few adventures. She's still a regular at her gym and keeps herself very busy. Last I saw they were testing out the water to see if it was ready for swimming and paddle boarding.

She posts up almost every day on the socials.

Update.
I am in full swing harvesting garlic and the latest undercutter is a joy to use. Very stress free to use. The tractor I bought from Camdigger was widened one position, and is wide enough and the undercutter is also, and just cuts and lifts like it was made for it.
