WOW,

40 HP, that's about 4 times what I could use. Way too heavy.

Those are pretty simple, not much to go wrong. If it turns over and the coils fire, it could likely be brought back to life. The water pump impeller and most of the hard parts in the lower unit didn't change much until the late 70's- early 80's. The "electra-shift" lowers were the exception, they were junk and problem prone from the giddy-up. Mostly found on the 50 to 85 HP models.

Other than scaring the kids 'cause they are 2 stroke, motors like that are still in demand, around fresh water lakes. Dependable, long lived, easy to operate, smooth power. 40 is a Handy size for the heavy 14 - 18 foot 'glass boats of the 60's-70's.

Might be worth you investing some spare time to troubleshoot or running past a local OB guy for parts. (what the hell, it's already drug out...)

I do appreciate the offer though

Thanks,
RED

Yeah, I sort of figured it was overkill for you. I did not remember how big it was until I tackled pulling it out today. No big deal back into the truck it goes along with all the other shit I've hung onto for no logical reason.

Gee, I've never kept junk past the immediate need, (pay no attention to the 2000 sq. ft. building, crammed to the eves, in the side yard.)

what a concept.

I usually keep it as long as I don't need it then I get rid of it just before I need it.

Thats usually the case for me as well! Usually shortly after I get rid of something is when I need it!

Found it.
Picked up a 1990 6 HP Johnson short shaft for $130.00. Needs a fuel pump and likely a carb cleaning. I'll order a waterpump kit, a new kill switch and a starter rope return spring, just to have them in hand.

If I can't make it go or I blow it up, the lower will be a snap to adapt.

As before, all good things come to he who waits, as long as he's busting his azz while he waits...

Rollin, Rollin, Rollin...
