![]() So it is 1.75lbs for the head and 2.25 complete. You can see just how loose the wrought iron was. It was a really tough material to use.. I had to adjust the process to account for just how loose it was. I would split/fracture up the grain at all temperatures.. Had no time to refine it by stacking and welding.. But it was fun and challenging.

The 3rd photo shows the welding seam.. I always ask for this angle because I'm always curious how clean it is.

Nicely done...
Looks to be a handy sized tool. I really enjoyed the part you posted yesterday, that thing looked awesome. I wish I had half your talent, you really do unique and interesting things. I really appreciate the time and effort you put into sharing with us, I may not say it often but I do enjoy seeing what you do.... Thank you, very much....

![]() You guys here on SFT are my home group.. I'm not doing much in the welding or machining aspect, but I have been doing a bit more forging so at least can share a few photos or videos to keep you guys at least a little entertained. ![]() I'm finally starting to get back into forging shape and able to bring forwards a lot of the detailed stuff that I simply would have left out before. there are a bunch of things I'd love to make but not video worthy as the amount of footage to process is huge.. I did film the making of the hatchet but we will see where it goes.. Your welcome. ![]()

That last picture shows a real nice thin blade. In the right hands that should be able to do many things.
Nice work, Jen

I today kinda went out and beat it up some on some old dried out Locust, maple and cherry stripping bark, hewing some straight sides and removing knots or branch remnants. The wood was cut down last summer so it's about as dry as it can be in log form.. (I don't like to cut dry wood/trees with an ax.. It kills the edge) and she preformed very well and was still sharp enough to pull the dry skin of the arms.. I have no hair on my arms but peach fuzz.. It did take off a few longs ones when I first sharpened it.. ![]() She's gonna be a powerful chopper and swung really nice. Ideally about 1/2lb more would be perfect.. a 2lb head or 2.25lb would be ideal.. My old one was just over 2.5lbs I was looking for a model with a little more finesse.. Anyhow, still sharp and intact.. I'm a happy camper. ![]()

it's just my opinion, but the work you mentioned is just about what I use my pair for when camping or just a carry on in the truck working around the place. Beats a 4 lb machete. ![]() Nice work Jen, the finished cutter will do you well. jef
