I never made it far enough into my searching to actually purchase a torch setup. I got distracted (and fulfilled) with plasma cutters. There are plenty of times that I could have used a torch system for heating/bending but I just found other ways to accomplish it--usually by redesigning the project.
That said to explain my otherwise complete lack of experience, I was visiting an acquaintance who had a propane setup vs the acetylene and was very impressed. To my novice brain it seemed to offer a similar result with fewer complications. Propane was readily available, could be transported easier, didn't seem as dangerous, and the initial buy-in was similar if not cheaper. There were some small details like the different tips and hoses that I'd read about but I've long since forgotten. Thankfully others know way more in that regard.
If I were to ever need the process, I think I'd still prefer it. But I'm not that ambitious and it's unlikely I'll ever have a clean enough space to use a torch safely.
