How to Forge a Split Basket Twist Handle Video #2

This is video #2 in the basket series and builds upon the last video..

This is a split basket using a spacer block.. The next video will do a split twist without a spacer block and more rods..

This video with 4 rods is very much easier than with 5 rods and this handle looks best with 5 3/16" rods vs 4.. But, the 5 rods would be to much for most people..

That was educational to watch. Nice to hear your voice too. Makes the instruction more personal. I have noticed over the last few vids that you are becoming more relaxed in your presentation. Looking more professional all the time. Nail polish was a nice touch too.

Thanks.. I prefer the titles.. I dislike the verbal on videos.. With this said, I keep getting asked to do the verbal and the problem is because as I work there is no story board..

I simply forge the item.. In a demonstration or teaching time frame I am talking and explaining the whole time..

On film the reheat times get deleted so all this information gets deleted.

Which means now doing both..

People often equate the titles as a less better way to do it.. For me it's the exact opposite.. I can always stop to read them.. But you can't stop to hear.. so then have to rewind it and play it again..

There is a reason why I started with the titles and dual screens.. LOL..

I'm just doing what the audience wants.. Though it just means more work for less pay.. (they are free to watchers)

Not sure how much longer they will stay that way..

Totally agree, but I appreciate the titles as I have a 70 percent hearing loss. I don't mind normal shop noise as background,but absolutely despise added "music" that some stick in there.

Truly enjoy these videos , so many thanks for the time and effort.

I have come to the conclusion there is no making anybody happy..

It's funny what people want for free and then complain it's not what they want to see..

I'm always amazed when someone leaves a thumbs down or complains about content in the video, like a phone ringing. complaining how annoying it is..

Have you watched any videos by Gary Huston? He does a voice over while he is editing his videos. I have no idea what kind of software or setup that takes, or how it effects the editing time, but it seems to work out nicely for blacksmithing videos where you are cutting out all the down time and have a lot of background noise.

Voice overs are pretty fast.. Much faster than the titles..

Is there really only 2 people who like them..

Next video is on a double basket..

Personally I doubt I will ever be a successful YOutuber.. LOL..

I don't want to get into doing it other than what I am all ready doing because it's the kind of videos I like.. But, the channel is slow going.. Eh..


Problem is I don't really care.. I was invited to participate in the 2020 ABANA conference as an instructor/ demonstrator and I told them only if it's on my time frame.. LOL.. That didn't fly.. So, now I am an assistant.. LOL..

I'm still burnt out with the blacksmithing scene though I really enjoy demonstrating and teaching, but the crap inbetween reminds me to much of why I got out of it to begin with..

I am still stuck with the difference between skillful blacksmith work and pay..

Anyhow, I don't really know where any of it is going..

I appreciate the videos you make Jennifer. Hard to believe that it takes that much editing time to shorten it up, but it is what it is. And pretty much, only you can do the editing because you know what is important to leave in.

MY pleasure.. I only remove the reheat times.. The part that takes so long is all the dual footage edits.. And then the zooms and covering certain aspects of the anvil like face to horn to heel shots..


figure it's 2x the work then some..

I do like to watch them though and it was one of the reasons to make them..

That I wanted to make videos with correct content and to like watching them.. LOL..
