Default Propane cutting torch setup

This started in the wrong forum so getting things going here now. Been wanting to set up a propane cutting torch for the last few years so started gathering parts. Have the torch, hoses, the cart, tanks, and regulators.

Got the parts for converting the hose to propane today. Changed a few fittings and am all set. Hooked it up and my victor regulator is not working. The regulator came from an auction so it was a guess as to whether is was OK. Turns out it is not OK. Reads propane tank pressure, but when turning in the pressure screw it starts to hiss then drop to zero. Did it several times same result.

The cart also needs some work on the axle height so some mods will happen to it tomorrow.

Plan to get a rebuild kit for it, but first tomorrow I am going to switch it with the one on my OA setup to verify it does not work. The regulator is a Victor model SR6B that takes a 0790 0029 kit. Found one for $27.99. Not sure it is a good price or not yet.

Battery crapped on my camera so new battery is on the way. Pics after the camera has a new life.

Good news today. When I was doing a quick test of the acetylene regulators I expected I could just hook up the tank side and screw in the regulator and see if it was working without the torch hose hooked up, and then I tried it with the torch hooked up and the regulator work fine. Seems you have to have back pressure for the regulator to work correctly. Live and learn.

Now working on the cart to redo the axle location a bit for better balance and ground clearance when traveling.

All done. Cuts great. Used a Harris torch I have had for many years. Had to borrow the oxygen regulator off the O/A torch to get the propane running. Now to pick up a another regulator at some up upcoming auction and a 40# propane tank.

Extended to axle back about 3", so balance is much better now. Made a hose hanger while I was at it. I will redo thew propane tank chain setup after I get the 40# tank.

Glad you got it going. You will enjoy the weight loss and once you get used to it you will like it.

Your not going to need the 40 lb tank.

I have run thru countless oxygen bottles and I'm still on the same
20 lb bottle.

FWIW I'm putting together a portable cutting rig (hand carry) and found
a 5lb propane bottle on sale at the farm place for $45.

Cut some 2" angle, left side. Clean cutting. Only took 3-4 seconds for preheat. Very similar to O/A.
