You are welcome to do so if you find yourself in the neighborhood.

This thing has become more curious since cleaning it a bit.
I was able to loosen a part. It pivots on a pin and moves about five degrees.

It also has what I would best describe as a micrometer adjustment on on end. It is seized and won’t turn without fussing. Now that I think of it I will later count the number of increments around the barrel.

Yep, still thinking it’s a finger for a tool and cutter grinder myself, the cutter rests on that as the cutter is fed along the grinding wheel. The micrometer adjustment would adjust the height, which is how the slight angle changes are made for the relief angles on the cutter.
The pivoting would allow for fine tuning the location of the rest to get it as close as possible to the edge of the flute as well. Sent from my iPhone using ShopFloorTalk |

I agree a cutter grinder
the finger fits more in the gullet of the flute so you don't grind the finger. once you sharpen the flute you rotate the cutter to the next flute the finger is spring loaded so you can rotate the cutter, it springs over the next flute and springs back under the gullet for the next flute to be sharpened.

That brings back some memories or nightmares. Except that the machine was a Brown and Sharp. Trying to figure out how to mount the cutter at the correct angle, with the correct clearance and consistent blade sharpness was an exercise designed by Rubin Goldberg.
