Default Cable reels finished

Finished up some cable reels for the soon to come welding flatbed. Here's some pics and a pdf of the sketch. The reels are 15" circles and a 15" piece of 1 1/4" pipe with bearings ove a 3/4" CRS round bar. The reels are not wired there is a partial chain link that the wire will hook under and then roll them up. I tried to come up with a "fancy" locking mechanism to keep them from unrolling but opted for two pieces of black rubber bungee with the slots for adjustablity and just stretch it over the handles locking them together. I also plan to cover the whole works under a vinyl bag. I had the diamond plate steel and 2x3 tube and 1/4" plate had to buy the pipe and 3/4" bar and all hardware totaling around $75.00 TB

Them look purty dich

on my reels I welded a piece of 1/4" x 1" to the sq tube and drilled holes on the sides of the reels and uses hitch pins to keep them from unrolling

one thing that I see that may cause a problem is the small diamiter of the pipe and the leads been coiled to tight around that small of a radius, it may be all right though.

what is the other 2 reels for ext. cord and hose? and how do you plan to hook them up?

Great work

Looks good, Travis but I'm with James - wondering about that hub diameter.

At this point the other two are for a regular extension cord and extension leads. I'm just going to unroll them all the way and plug them in with the twist locks. Not ideal but couldn't come up with a clean easy, cheap way to leave them connected and most of my mobile work requires all my leads and then some. I thought about the small diameter too but leads seemed to wrap fine are you worried about damaging the leads over time by wrapping them that small? TB

i made a big air hose reel and i ran the end of the hose out through the center pipe and the hose sticks out so you can hook it to another air hose, the air hose coupler will swivelon a lead you just unhook the lead to roll it up.

I'm picturing something kinda like a big telephone handset cord, especially down towards the inside of the coil.

how much does 1 or 200 feet of welding lead weigh ??? 100 # ??? will 3/4 rod hold that much weight plus the reel weight and not bend ??

seems like a weak point to me... but the reels sure are nice. Nice fab work dich..

Very clean looking work there! As time and use goes on modifications can always be done if needed.
