Welding helmets

My Jackson Nexgen lasted quite awhile as a professional. I've used the Miller digital elite. Fantastic helmet, but the headgear doesn't work well for my fat head. I've been looking at the Jackson Balder as a replacement.

I use both a HF cheapie and a Speedglas both work well. I actually flash myself more doing fitup with the Speedglas due to how the arc sensors are arranged. The Speedglas can't be beat in my opinion for straight welding due to the way it is vented to keep things from fogging up. But, they are north of $300 now.

There is a few I been looking at now it's just which one do I wan I used a friend of mines but I'm not paying over 500.00 for a helmet and I used his snap on one which seems pretty nice but they run like 400.00.

When I was first starting out, I had a good friend introduce me to Jackson Safety products. He had an (at the time) inexpensive auto-dark hood he reserved for use with his grandkids, the Jackson Huntsman. I couldn't find one to buy, but managed to find the components. You can use pretty much ANY helmet of your choice that has replaceable lenses (damn near all of them) and throw in a Jackson Safety Solera ADF Cartridge. It's a small window unit, but they make larger window versions now as well so I'm sure that would really open things up. The cartridge was about $100 and I bought an upgraded helmet with the most comfortable headgear I could find.

That rig has served me every time I've needed it for over a decade. It charges with solar light, no batteries to replace. Put a good set of clear lenses in front of it with no filters, and change them out when they get spattered up or nasty. Cheap and easy.

Mrs. Rusty and Rusty Jr. Got me a Lincoln 3350 last Christmas. I'm still blown away by just how clear it is compared to my $50 cheapie.

I think my top-of-the-line 3350 was about $225.

Lincoln Also has a 2x4 auto with the high clarity, put one in my pancake hood, it’s amazing
