Default Large cutter

In the last month someone posted a link to a cutter made from a flywheel. Now I cannot find it and I don't see it in the index.

If anyone knows where the link is I would like to have it. Jerry

I guess I missed that one Mr. Jerry. But sounds very plausible.

I don't recall anything made out of a flywheel.
On the other hand if it was not placed in the Machining category I would probably miss it.

I've seen a couple from flywheels are you thinking of the stump grinder (see attached pics) or the log splitter http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bVAA...esponse_watch? or a different creation altogether?

I thought it was a car flywheel to make a cutter for a mill. I don't know tho.

you would need a pretty big mill to swing a flywheel as as a cutter head the distance from the spindle would make it hard on the spindle and bearings.
Also spinning that mass up takes a lot of power. even to pretty low rpm.s you are storing a lot of energy in that flywheel

That's what flywheels do isn't it? Store energy on one portion of a cycle and release it on another?

I can't imagine a flycutter built from a flywheel, but I've not seen all yet..

I dont know if this is close but I tried.

For what its worth and please bare in mind that Im certainly no machinist but I have some 6""-8" -10" cutters that I have scrounged over the years that I have on R8 adapters and they work pretty well, but they do scare me. But it dosent take a lot to scare me.

Personally I would prefer a lot more substantial of a mount than R8.

Jerry, I just made a single bit cutter that will mill over 4" on one pass...how big do you want to go?

old man,i sent you the flywheel cutter in a PM,but this is the same one i sent you.
The flywheel in question is a 6 cyl chevy thats small in diameter.
he uses 6 cutters, but one will do the job,a friend has a engine head machine with a large flywheel with only one cutter,a round cutter.
It does a great job on cast iron and aluim.
I plan on building a cutter like the one in the email i sent you,i have a big mill,10hp that should not have a problem with it.
