Default 4Lbs Steeled wrought iron hammer (modified swedish)

8/2019 I started to forge a larger steeled wrought iron hammer but then could not decided on the final design so thru it on the back burner until this August..

I finally decided on the design.. A Modified Swedish pattern..

I wanted about 4.5lbs but there was a welding snaffoo which involved a bad batch of coal.. Once I switched coal it welded right up.

Here is the pattern it was left in..

I had my cousin Tyler come by and swing the sledge for me to refine the shape into the 1 in the photo..

I then finished forging it at home, cleaned it up and polished it ready for heat treatment.

Here it is finished..

I have since forged with it and it swings very well..

I used both of the steeled wrought iron hammers during the recent competition.

Thanks guys..

It's interesting that the faces on the hammer that is smaller are polished on the side.. That side is the one placed on the anvil everytime.

The etching gets blurred but because the wrought iron is so much softer it wears away or deforms some.. The side of the face and peen are actually about 0.0005 taller than the wrought..

The older I get, the more I like my 2 ounce ball pein hammer.

Beautiful work, Jenn, and lots of it!
