Jewelers Lathe ?

I don't know how to attach pictures here but I have a small belt driven lathe that my dad put together a long time ago. It is an assy. that is mounter on a board for it thats about 20" x 26" and has a number of pullys assembled. Nice stuff BUT I don't know how to use it.
I have a bunch of his old tools as he was a machinist and he could make about anything. I gave away his old South Bend 7" swing and a bunch of stuff for it he had gathered over his years cause I was afraid of trying it. It's a tough tool and I just am too old myself to learn new trades. I thought that maybe learning to use the smaller one wouldn't be as difficult.
I thought some of you might actually be able to look at a picture of it and know what could be done with it... I thought itis "hobby-sized" and can't get rid of all his stuff, you know?

Machine tools are not that hard or scary to use as long as you keep your old gray beard out of the mechanisms.

Whatever old lathe you have, just proceed with caution and make sure you oil the hell out of it every time you use it. Post pics when you can.

Well now that I know how to do a pic, I will have to get this thing out... As I recall, it was quality stuff but then most older, machined cast parts are (were) nicely done and had a ore quality look to them, well some of them anyway.
At least someone that could use the big lathe has it. I have my dads polishing stuff though. He had some nice tools.

Most people don't know but clock makers and watchmakers use the same lathe.

Started dabbling in it around 68. Did it from then on as military dictates allowed. Opened a shop when I retired and closed it about 89 when assholes go too much for me. Just work on my own collection anymore.

And maybe some sweet young things clock if she bats her eyes just right...

It's very interesting and takes patience. The patience part should disqualify me..

Here's my latest project. This is the worst basket case I've ever worked on. It' a 1856-60 New Haven schoolhouse short drop #2..

It will look similar to the one shown when I'm done. The re-veneering will be the hardest part.
