Plier hinge separation

So I have a couple Gerber legend 800 multitool that the jaw has snapped off. Each plier is the opposite broken jaw. I'm wondering if I could press them apart and then back together. Has anyone ever taken a press-fit plier apart before? I have since replaced the tool so this is just a wonder-what-if scenario. I know they are warrantied, but the break doesn't fall under that.

Never tried that one. I have repaired a few by mixing and matching parts at the other end, files, knife blades and the like. Someday the one that now has all the broken pieces will get sent in and see if they’ll fix/repair it.

Near as I remember Gerber is real good about taking care of customers. They will probably warrent/replace those no questions asked.

Well, it was used in a twisting motion that snapped them. I don't want to screw things up for the next guy wanting warranty work and I'd like to see what happens. I will be attempting this, I just wanted to see what others have done.

Gerber is proud of their product turn it in don't second guess. It reminds me of Zippo lighters 110% backed with pride and if your lighter is special. Vietmam Vet unit Etc. They will go above and beyond with total dedication it is their mission.

I don't think it will be as simple as pressing the center out and back in. The hinge pin is upset, like a rivet on most pliars. I think you would have to drill the center out and then plan on making a new piece to replace it.
