Default Florida bridge collapse

Sort of a fabrication link, but more importantly dont design and build a bridge like this.
Here is a link to an official investigation

Sounds like a poor design for sure.

When the first cracks appeared they should have
shut down the road and stopped construction.

Maybe they thought the cracks would fix themselves. Some "inspector" should lose his job on that deal.

This incident is so criminally inept that it seems more likely to have been intentional than accidental.

Yup... At what point did they realize the cracks would NOT repair themselves? There is clear documentation of the cracks getting bigger over the 5 or so days before collapse. This is a case where public flogging then jailtime would be appropriate...

The video mentions this section was 950 tons! WTF! It was a pedestrian bridge! Someone was padding the quote or some other illegal activity. Selling concrete by the yard, no doubt...

I didn't realize until I watched this video, that it was a suspension bridge. That was never shown on the news coverage here in central FL.
The question is why did they expect it to stay up without suspenders? And without temporary supports.
Lots of stupid on that job.

That suspension part was simply cosmetic. It was supposed to stand as built.

Concrete seemed like a poor choice for that design. Nearly impossible to fabricate in a monolithic pour.
