Hope it works out in case it does freeze. By the way, winter weather has been weird in northern Mi. It was raining earlier tonight. Roads were ice coming home, so tomorrow will be nasty.

This morning at 6:30 it has warmed up to -28.5 and yep, the water is doing fine. I have to admit I'm very curious to see when it happens. It will take less than 5 minutes too thaw with the internal heat tape inside the pipe anyway.

Freezing plastic pipes don't concern me much, I spent one winter unemployed in Yellowknife and made enough by thawing frozen waterlines to keep the fires burning at home. The real money was made by restoration crews from people who went on holidays leaving water turned on, and a power outage later, the place freezes and blows up a tap, and then the heat comes back on. I recall this lawyer who had a 2 ft glacier in front of his carport

Nice. At you sure she didn’t plug in the heat tape without you knowing just so she would not have to deal with a frozen water line?

In order to plug in you have to move her shelving unit in the laundry room and then unscrew a 2 x 6ft panel to access the HW heater, and the plug in for the heat tape. So no, she doesn't go there. She is as curious as I am to see how this stands up.
And if we never plug it in, I am sure to hear about the $600 cost of the internal heater.

It may also be different if you were away for a few days and the water wasn’t moving in the line. That $600 heater is cheap for the sake of insurance AND convenience for the if/when situation.

You are absolutely right. I think what is happening is that water use during the day warms the insulation and pipe, and in the 8 hours where there is no flow the heat slowly bleeds off. 24 hrs with no use at this temp would have to freeze it up, I think.

That may be the case this year, after operation I can't fly for a while. Tickets are booked and we may be screwed.
Other than that not much gonna slow me down.
