I think that I could get away with skipping everything in orange. I mean do I really need 12 point sockets? I get that you run into those oddball square, 6pt or 12pt bolt heads but I think I've had to remove them maybe twice in my 52 years. Also I think I could just get away with just using all deep well impact sockets, no short ones. That would save more than half the storage space. What are your thoughts? Also curious your thoughts on the montezuma style tool boxes. Here's what I have (red is metric): Last edited by Scratch; 11-18-2022 at 03:38 PM. |

I just used a side winder 1/4" ratchet like you have laying in your box to change a valve spool on a Bobcat, have had it for years and this was the first time I used it but it was sure handy.

Yeah I use it every once in a while. I don't have an air or electric ratchet yet so I'll break it loose with a standard ratchet, then use the side winder to spin it off if it's in a tight spot. Well worth the 15 bucks or whatever it cost me years ago.

I have 1/2 drive up to 1-5/16". Many of those will be "close" for metric size although I have big metric as well. I also have 30mm and 36mm deep for axle nuts.

But yeah, I think I’ll up my impact socket set up a bit. Last edited by Scratch; 11-19-2022 at 11:19 PM. |

IF I were starting out and had to buy 6pt OR 12pt sets, I would buy 6pt with fine-tooth ratchets. Project Farm on gootoob did a decent comparo of ratchets recently. There have been times when I had to buy an individual 12pt socket for a 12pt nut...
