Interesting trinket. I am more impressed that he can do that with a super basic lathe with no power feeds and just a 3 jaw chuck. Not sure I would love the hot glue slinging everywhere as the workpiece heated up though

I'm impressed, that is very nice machining. I wish there were good dwgs. of the tool shape used for the internal grooving and the dimensions.
Would make a good proj. for the really advanced students. :-)

Cerrosafe would be a good alternative vs. hot melt glue, but a bit costly.

Just for shits and giggles I started to make a drawing of the assembly. I haven't finished but as you get into it the geometry of the tools becomes fairly obvious. The only "tricky" one is the tool use to make the "undercut" which leaves a square corner inside the smaller circle--the rest is just drilling and boring.

The final operation after the glue is applied probably doesn't build up much heat which is why the glue works--for all we know he might be stopping along the way to allow the part to cool. Cerrosafe would be a perfect alternative, in fact it would probably hold the parts better; not that it seems to matter...

I know you know how to make one. I grabbed some frames from the video. It looks like he just welded a 'something' on to the end of a bar. I understand people always have a something that will works.

I think it's just a cheap carbide tipped boring bar that he's ground to suit the application--notice how the shank has a slight taper...
