Default KoO NEXT PROJECT, UNDER WATER CAMERA

ok with all these sunk cats in the great white north, i need to build an under water camera to send under the ice and take a look around.
the water in the summer is clear as a bell and they dive to 90 feet and it is like daylight they say. (i'm afraid of water so i only go out in the winter when it is frozen).
what i did before was take and mount my video camera in a 6" steel pipe and then run a 2" pipe up to surface with the cables. that way the lens did fog up. this system worked great with about 20 feet of pipe in the summer. but now i need to go 100 feet under the ice so what do you guys suggest and would like to use the ipe system again so i can turn the camera around to scan the water for the cat. (like a sub periscope but the other way around)

As you wish.
But I thought it was good in Off Topics, too.

FWIW- I believe I just saw an underwater camera in one of the thousands of tool catalogs I get in the mail-Harbor Freight maybe? The price was about $100 IIRC.It probably wouldn't be too good a quality, but for takin a quick peak down there, why not?

There is a waterproof case manufacturer that guaranties to 100 ft and makes a clear case I think it is pelican but I have no link I saw one at a fishing lodge last summer. An ice auger ,some line a compass in the field of view and and suitable weight would do it.
You could also put a positive pressure on the case with a compressor, an orfice a line down to the case and a ventin the case. The pressure in the case will be just enough above water pressure to vent the air through the orfice. you do need to know how deep you will go and ensure that your compressed air is at a higher pressure than the depth created pressure.

They call it rusty iron for a reason Terry

43 psi will equal the water pressure at 100 feet.

thansk guys, i would like to build one or the case i mean. never thought of compressed air. i think in the morning i'll post a picture of the quicky one i built a few years ago to look for an airplane motor. but we did it in the summer so there was not much problem with the camera freezing up or fogging up in the cold water.

great ideas and i hope to be able to get some nice video of a cat in the lake after 50 years.

thansk

King, looks to me like one of these would do the trick. They "see in the dark", very compact & supposed to be water proof to 130 feet. I have an older model that I have used to run down sewer lines, inside walls, etc. I don't even get it out of the box very often but it can be pretty handy at times. $50 - $60 on ebay these days.

Here is a link to one of the auctions; you can click onto the category search from there, I reckon:

thansk cutter, i sent the ebay seller a question on the power cable and video line. that is what i want and then i need to build a tower or a pipe system to send it down.
on the boat i use a 2" pipe and ran the cables inside the pipe to the camera. then i could turn the pipe to see and change the angle of the camera too. plus raise and lower to follow the terrain of the ground. so ithink if i drill a bunch of holes then drag a skid or a building over the hole the drop the camera thru the ice to the depth i need and the scan around for the cat or sunken treasures. if i see nothing, then pull up and off to the next hole. this sounds like fun, right or have i been smoking the drapes again, LOL

lol

Well, it would be fun to me, Joey - if I could figure some way to stay warm.
I hate being cold, and I am useless when it happens. My nose starts running, I sneeze, eyes water & once
it starts I spend all my time blowing my nose & pulling my britches up. But the cameras are pretty cool.

How do you snag a cat once you find it?
