Had a slow day yesterday, so started the install. Got the DRO box mounted, and X axis done. Probably will route the wire different, when I get the Y axis installed. That is going to take some special brackets and figuring out. I think I have the Z axis planned, will be somewhat simple.
Still waiting for the individual DRO for the Quill head to come in. I did use the X axis today to center up the boring head in a rod mounting that I had to clean up to rebush. I think I am going to like the features on it. That 1/2 feature was nice. Will really be better when I get the Y axis installed. Sent from my iPhone using ShopFloorTalk

Work is slowing down again. Typical around this time of year. Finally have some time during regular hours to do some improvements around the shop again.
Adding some organizational shelves. Still work in progress. Have more planned. Going to use the cabinet that was there in another spot to help organize new bronze stock. Note, all this was from boxes that our cylinder rod stock is/ was shipped in. I just had to take the time to separate and pull nails. The shop used to just burn them to get rid of them. Co worker asked boss for new set of silver and deming drills. He seen a set for $30 online that had three Flats on the reduced shanks. Boss didn’t understand why we wanted ones with the flats, so he ordered a set for 3 times the amount. I spent yesterday morning milling the flats in them, and the rest of old bits. Hopefully this will hold them much better and make them last longer with no slipping. Pics to follow.

Set up pictures and finished drills.
I wanted to use the rotary indexer, and good use of the adapter I made to mount the small 3 jaw chuck on it. I set the angle so it was just slightly down at the end hanging out, and put the adjustable machinist jack under it to push it back up until the indicator sweeps it true. That way it is under pressure so the cutter cut better to. Then just touched the cutter down to it and raised the knee up to take .025” total off in three passes. I kept the cuts light to avoid chatter. It would have been way cheaper to buy these already made, but work is slow, so I can either go home without pay, or invest some “unbillable” time into making the shop more productive in times when it’s “balls to the wall” busy.
