Hydraulic Puller

I mentioned in another thread that I am threading a piece of 1" plate to make a puller for whatever floats by.
Years ago Terry Lingle gave me some Enerpac 3" stroke 10 ton cylinders. I made a puller out of one and then nigger rigged a addition to it because it started to be too small. I found I was bending the all-thread in a lot of cases to get the rods into the slots, because the arms were too short.
This year is the time to do it properly.
And I'm trying to finish off a few half done projects before the 24th
So the Milwaukee metal saw cut of a fresh chunk of steel 12" x 4" x 1" And I drilled a 2" hole in the middle. The threads on the cylinders are 14tpi and it needs a hole 2.17 to begin threading.
Did the lathe work yesterday and today I cut the slots for the pulling rods, and then faced it off. There is a picture of the little one and today's job.

Someday I want to modify a stubby 20ton jack for this sort of thing. Years ago I recall doing heavy pulling with a hydraulic jack on its side and chains in a slotted plate. A terribly funky setup that had to have 5 arms and hands to set it up until it got tight.

That sounds very similar to an old vise separator I threw together a few years ago. It didn't have the slotted plate but it was a bolt snapping, chain popping gizmo until we got a couple of generations into it.

Yes, I recall that on your website.

A part of me wanted to get fancy and taper the arms away from the cylinder, and then I got to thinking about how the further out on the arm how much greater the force is, and decided that'll do as is.
