Default Robert Bruno Revisited

The Dallas Morning News has published a nice bio on the builder of the Steel House which he continued to sculpt over several decades until the time of his death. The man remains something of an enigma even to those who knew him best.

This piece reveals more about Bruno than anything I've read before and it has a marvelous rotating panorama of the interior which you can also freeze and zoom in or out.

There was also a TV segment here locally that ran earlier this week about a similar sculpture he'd built prior to starting construction on the house. It's got eerily similar lines to the house, but those who know things say it wasn't a model. Could've fooled me. Maybe a practice run?

Anyhow, this sculpture has been sitting in the middle of a cotton field and the powers that be at Texas Tech decided to give it a home in the city on the campus. It was being installed this week at it's new permanent home.

Here's the video along with an article from EverythingLubbock

That one is also mentioned in the article, dubby, along with a couple of others and the Flintstone house I'd never heard about.

Thanks Cutter. I know stuff about the house and the man has been posted before. As I remember they always took the angle that he was eccentric. This one paints him as an artist.

I am glad that someone is realized what something rare and special happened in Lubbock. I'm glad they are trying to capture and preserve something that does not come along very often.

I enjoy seeing the work of a person that is passionate about what they do. There are lots of members on SFT that are passionate about there work, and not just the artsy ones.

Thanks, Rod.
I think this is a much more accurate portrait of this man than articles calling him an oddball. His designs would not sell realestate, but are made to be a cauldron of ideas for others to see and use.

That house is really quite beautiful in an unusual sort of way. It makes you step back and begin to examine in detail. I like it.

Another advantage is you don't have to worry about termites!

Thanks for posting, it was an interesting read. The world can always use a little more eccentricity. Mike
