While the iron is hot, so to speak, I will also cast meself a hammer out of some cable end lead I got from Camdigger.
After I get the friking auger out....
course the bridge may go down tonight, by sundown it has sunk 10" below the road. Tomorrow the cattle feed wagons may be parked and the cows hungry.

So today I finished off this batch.
Lowered the fuel pressure to 3psi and used my infrared heat gun to check on it. Things went well with the burner and no excess heat. I don't think it took any longer to melt.
I was thinking about what you said Jef, and looked at the burner and realized I have 5 inches clearance under the air intake. So I put it in the press and pushed on the burner pipe and lowered the thing by 3 inches and spread the legs much wider this way.

Total production was 105lb of lead that cost .57lb. About 30% is shit and has to be sorted out, because it is iron weights and zinc weights, then you get rid of the clips in the first melt, more throwaway. So you are left with a usable product that has to be fluxed and skimmed and cast.

I really would prefer pure lead, and the SIL is a industrial plumber/pipefitter and brings me lead sheeting which is most excellent.

I have a pile of lead muffins, I have always used aluminum muffin tins and they tend to stick and self destruct after a bit. This is the first time I have used teflon coated molds and, baby I love it.
I thought the coating would go up in smoke but it works fine, and does what it is designed to do.
