Default Being green is a terrible thing to do

I have mentioned before that I was going to refurbish a John Deere model BO that my father gave me. He partly disassembled it to paint it 35 some years ago and never did the job. So it is up to me.

This was a horrible thing to do. I stripped off most of what was left, and used an electrolytic de-rusting tank to strip off the rust and paint, and in some cases, this allowed things that were rusted solid to move again, like the radiator shutters.
The main lump of metal I took to a neighborhood sandblaster, who did a sort of adequate job.
Then the painting fun began.
First off I used an epoxy 2 part primer and missed a pile of spots and had top go over it again and again.
Here the pictures show the priming and the start of painting. I tried to hire someone to do it as I am not that good, and it is not good for me to be painting, especially with the finish green, a two part polyethylene. I wear a mask with organic vapour filters, and am not feeling any central nervous system damage yet.

I have progressed on painting to the point where it is now time to start assembling the components like the radiator and mounting it.
I pulled off the rear tires to inspect the rims and found one that the salt had leaked out of the tube and corroded the rim so I am waiting to get that sandblasted, primed, painted, and mounted, but I got the front wheels on it, and some of the small parts like the carburetor ready to go.

At this point, a job rolled in that I had promised to do in June, and it never showed up, so this thread will continue after the belly flopped trailer is out of my yard.

Tractor is looking great Gerry! I hear ya on painting. But it's a necessary evil unless you want the "rat rod" look. :-)

When I got it, the engine had no spark plugs in it, and I was horrified. It turned over easily though, as it was in a desert climate and had little moisture. It had been covered with a tarp, long rotted away.
When I got home I put oil in the cylinders and new spark plugs, and this year I am finally doing something. When I got it into the shop, I repaired the magneto and got spark, and then sprayed a little gas into the garb and flipped it over and it fired up.

It is retired, and yes it will be a parade machine. It was a rat rod, and will now look like a tractor.
It seems JD changed colors on their machines in 1959, and that color is called Classic Green vs the new green color. I went to the JD guy and they charged me $90 for a liter. As I will use 4 liters I thought I may be better to paint it gold.
So I bought a liter, and went to town with it to Cloverdale Paints, and asked them to mix up a 2 part poly paint of that exact color. They did and I bought a 4 liter bucket for $60. I took the precious JD paint back by Brinks Security to the dealer and got my money back.

Yup. Funny thing is that before I even got to the end of the post I knew exactly how it was gonna end...
