Nice repair. Glad it all turned out. Now would it been cost effective if you had sent the gear to a shop like Kieths, to have him make the gear? Of course, he would have subcontracted it out to a gear shop.
At least you saved a good machine from the scrap heap.

No. Sounds the same as it did before. I ended up putting sealed bearings on all the easily done gear shaft and there are two more gears with open bearings yet. I noted the new bearing do not spin as freely as to old ones.
I haven't gone up over an inch with the drill yet, but I can't see any problem.

Well, the way I see it, if you have the equipment and the time, you should learn to use them, or else sell them off.
So I learned to cut a gear with a divider plate. It sure is easier to do it this way than when I cut some lathe back gears a few years ago.
I waited a long time to buy that Nider. I was bidding on one at auction and it went up to 3 grand and I said I can get new Chinese for less. I ended up paying a grand for this machine and the guy sold it because it was 3phase.

Default The path of least resistance

Here is a way to cut a gear if you have no rotary table or mill

There is more than one way to skin a cat, or make a gear in this case.
