Christmas came early, Savage's new lathe

I had been looking for a metal lathe for a while. This lady's husband had passed away last spring and she had all of his tools and machinery to sell. Her family was quite supportive but they didn't have a lot of knowledge on what the man had owned. Just an add on Craig's List with no pictures. Which I think helped me a little. 3 days after i gave her a check to hold it another man tried to buy it from her on the spot, but thankfully she honored the deal we had made. 1600 miles later, 1 with the mini van to look at it and 1 with the 1 ton and goose neck trailer i am the proud owner of what i believe to be a really nice home shop lathe. It is pre WW1 but has had very good care.

The lathe he owned was a lodge and shipley conehead with a drive-all gear box with a factory clutch. It came with 2 4 jaw chucks, face plate, dog plate, 1 3 jaw chuck, a small x y axis, steady rest, and more tooling than one could hope for. It is a 16 inch with an 8 ft. bed. it was in his personal shop for well over 30, 40 years and as best that i can tell wasn't abused at all. Here are a few pictures, I hope you all enjoy. Savage

Shade tree, So what happened to all of my other pictures that I posted. Since you can only send 5 pictures at a time. What did i do wrong and how do i do it correctly. I spent a lot of time on that. You just come along and delete my work ?

Nice score and it is nice to hear that the person you dealt with was a straight shooter with you.

Well done on the pictures.

I did not see all the other pictures and to go along with posting a project, once you make your initial post and upload the five pictures just submit your reply and click the post reply button to continue your project post. That way it keeps it all together when we all drool over your new lathe.

Good for you!!!! That's gonna be a nice lathe for you .I have a 18" L$S, I believe mine is 1918 model.

Nice find. I think I have the same drive all gear box on a 140 year old lathe at work on one on the old horizontal mill. Have a spare gear box too, or the boss does. :-)

You need to add posts not threads.
