Default Atlas Copco compressor

I had the good fortune to get a freshly rebuilt Atlas Copco LE40 10S compressor, sans motor. The unit is clean and ready to go, but the motor coupler is missing, well, most of the pieces. My guess is it self destructed which prompted the rebuild.
The price was more than right at a hundred bucks, now I just have to couple it to a motor, either direct drive or by pulley. I will likely set it up for direct drive, I have a nice industrial motor that will be perfect for the task.

My big question is this. What direction does this guy rotate? I found a few manuals online, complete with parts breakdowns, but nothing I have found reveals the direction of rotation. Anyone have any experience or knowledge of these compressors?

Rusty,

if it’s a V-Twin looking aluminum pump, if it’s a single or twin cylinder, rotation does not matter, if it gets to 3 or more cylinders, there will be a directional arrow on the crankshaft housing.

got any pictures

Its a twin. I don't have any pictures of the actual unit at the moment, but a quick google search found this one that is damn near a twin to my unit, without the motor etc.

I wondered if they were "uni-directional" - Kind of like the genderless folk you would find at a street festival...

Figure out which way the fan has to turn to blow air over the cylinders. That will tell you the rotation needed.

You can name your compressor, Pat.

I hope cutter approves.

I'm undecided so I guess I'm neutral on that matter. Whatever.

Saturday night live.
He look like a man. Lol.
I wouldn't want to disrespect anyone named Paton this forum by naming my compressor after an androgynous character of that name..

The fan on the flywheel is straight finned. (There is a joke there somewhere). No help in determining rotation.
The only mention I found in the literature suggests anti clockwise when looking at the compressor from the motor coupling side.

Rusty, first congrats on scoring a really nice machine. It should do you well.
And it appears they are LBTQ.
Her is a clip from the manual:
Quote:
Instruction book
1 Leading particulars
1.1 General description
LE, LF and LT are air-cooled, single-acting piston
compressors. LE and LT are lubricated compressors; LF are
oil-less compressors which deliver oil-free air. LF15 up to
LF40, LE15 up to LE55 and LE75 50 Hz are single-stage
compressors; LE75 60 Hz, LE110/150, LF55/75 and LT are
two-stage compressors.
LE/LF/LT15 up to -55 and LE/LT75 50 Hz are two-cylinder
compressors, LE/LT75 60 Hz, LF75, LE/LT110-150 are three-
cylinder compressors.
Note: Take care that three-cylinder compressors rotate in the
direction as indicated by the arrow on the fan housing (counter-
clockwise seen from fan cowl side).

LE/LF are built for effective working pressures up to 10 bar.
LT are built for effective working pressures up to 30 bar (LT15
only for 15 and 20 bar).
The two cylinder units swing both ways according to this.
