Furnace seals via a sand seal on the lid, heats up to 1700F degrees then the carbon is introduced. Assuming the heat removes the oxygen, I am not the operator or a scientist, I just fix it when it breaks

I don't know much beyond the basics of what you are working with. My knowledge of case hardening involves putting the part in a can of powder and bringing it all up to temp together, or sometimes for a thinner finish there are special quenching agents.
I have always bought my refractory for forge liners and stuff from this website: https://www.hightemptools.com/supplies.html I think they would have anything you need to reline what you have, or build a new smaller shell, but doubt they can offer any insight into your particular furnace as the guy that started that business was predominantly into making knives.
