Grove AMZ66XT buy or not.

I am in need of a Man basket/boom-type deal for the shop build.

I came across this unit for reasonable money and know the guy who is selling it.

The unit needs some work on the hydraulic swivel and a few hydraulic lines.


the swivel parts are about 100.00 and labor. Tough spot to get into but 3 or 4 hrs of labor might be worth it.

Any of you guys have experience with these kinds of machines? Reliability and such.

Recommendations?

I know nothing about that machine but have ran several like it and they are very handy and if you could get for the right price I would definitely get it. Use it in your new building and if you figure you don't need it sell it. Once you use it I don't think that you would like to part with it. Storage would be the only problem. IMO

It looks old enough that the electrical should be simple and easy to work on

Dont know anything about those at all. Would it be possible to rent one from a rental company for the time you would need it on your project? Just an idea.

I priced out a rental and for a short term rental they are about 1000.00 per week. Then there is a fee for delivery and pickup.

this machine was supposed to go for 4500.00 I talked him down to 4k, it would not move and he came down to 3K.. I was thinking of offering 2500 and settle at 2750.00

Okay then. Yeah, you would most likely be better off buying your own and then selling it later to recoup your money when you no longer need it.

Those man-lifts have a hydraulic motor a each rear wheel. On the one I had, the brake, which is only releases by pressure feed to the drive motor, had seized on and would not let it move.
The end plate on the motor is to be unbolted and flipped over and bolted back on. This causes a bit to press on the lever and release the brake for towing.

Your rig may have been parked for a long while.

I think if you land it for that price You would be right to buy it.
I scrapped a 40ft unit and the weight is 8 tons, so there is some value in it no matter what.
The first thing that fails is the multi-wire cord that goes to the basket to allow machine control from the basket.

Under 3K and only a little for repairs. Use it and sell it later if you decide you do not need it anymore.
